What should your child be learning in 3rd Grade Math?

Some of the skills your third grader will cover this year are:

  • Understand the place value of whole numbers

  • Calculate and solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

  • Understand the relationship between whole numbers, simple fractions, and decimals

  • Multiplication and division by a 1-digit number

  • Multiply and divide numbers up to a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number

  • Include use of the terms ‘product’, ‘quotient’ and ‘remainder’

  • Exclude 2-step calculation such as: Find the product of 6 and the difference between 10 and 8

  • Carry out simple mental calculations

In the 3rd grade, students should master the basics of arithmetic operations. Geometry becomes more conceptual as well in third grade math.

Your child will continue to build upon the mathematical concepts learned in their first couple years of elementary school. This will help prepare them for higher level math in the upcoming middle school years.

So in short, third grade math activities provide kids with a great way to help them build the necessary math skills needed in for 3rd grade. And what kids love is they get to have fun and learn!

Besides using fun games for 3rd grade third math, third grade math worksheets are another great tool that should not be overlooked. Math worksheets and fun 3rd grade math games use together will go a long way in helping kids have a great math experience!
