Most kids don't enjoy math because they don't realize how fun and interesting math really is! If they could just catch a glimpse of some of the so many ways math is exciting, fun and engaging, they will look at math in a whole new way!For example, take the world's tallest building that was just unveiled in Dubai. How many pennies would it take if you were to stack one penny on top of another from the ground to get to the top? This is a fun question. What kid wouldn't be intrigued by the answer. Or, how much does 50,000 pennies weigh? How tall would a stack of 50,000 pennies be? This is definitely a math related question. Let's see how we could figure this out. If we knew how much one penny weighed we could multiply this number by 50,000. But most of us don't have a scale that will weigh a penny. So we could weigh a larger number of pennies. Why don't we weigh 100 pennies, or 200. We just need to weigh enough until we can get a reading on our scale. A good way to do this is to stack enough pennies on your scale to give you a weight of maybe 1 or 2 pounds. Now that we got you started, see if you can figure how much 50,000 pennies weighs.
