Addition Concentration

If you've ever enjoyed playing "Concentration" growing up with a deck of regular playing cards, then you should enjoy this addition activity.

To get started, print off the addition cards and the answer cards.

Decide which addition facts you want to use. You can use as many or as few as you like.

After deciding which addition facts to use during the game, get the addition answer card that goes with those addition facts. So if you are going to use the 3 + 4 card, you will need to also have the 7 answer card in you pile of cards.

Place the cards that you have chosen to use face down in rows of five. Each player takes a turn an turns over any two cards of their choice.

addition games If they get a match after turning the two cards over, they pick up the two matched cards and place in a pile next to them. In the example on the right, the player turned over two cards that make a match since 3 + 4 is equal to 7. They would then pick up these two cards and place them in a pile next to them.

Each time they turn over matching addition statements, they will turn over another two cards of their choice on that same turn. If they get a match they pick up the cards as before but if there is no match the cards are turned face down again and the next player takes their turn.

Play continues in this way until all cards have been matched and there are no cards remaining. The player with the most matches is the the winner.
